Distribution
As a detritovore living off the excrement of larger animals the dung beetles have been able to inhabit a large range of niches. Although occurring on all continents, the largest concentration of beetles can be found in savannahs and tropical forests with diversity and species richness correlated with tropical and warm summer rainfall (Davis & Scholtz 2001).
